Film

Japanese Films — List of Japanese film related sites coordinated by Kristina Kade Troost, PhD, Librarian for Japan and Korea, at Perkins Library in Duke University. Lots of great information is waiting for you.
Asian Educational Media Service — A resourceful site managed by Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It is a national clearinghouse for information about educational media (i.e., audio-visual) materials related to Asia. Maintains an up-to-date, computerized database of information about media, which includes price and distributor information for materials still in print and holdings/lending information for materials held in the US.
Japan Film Commission Promotion Council — Film commissions are non-profit organizations from all over in Japan that attract and support location productions of movie, TV drama and commercial message films in the Commissions’ respective localities. If you have interests in location film productions in Japan, this site will give you a good start for your search in English and in Japanese.

Newspapers and Magazines

Asahi Shimbun — Online version of one of the three major newspapers in Japan. The English page, International Herald Tribune-The Asahi Shimbun, is available as well as special member page and services.
Hokkoku Shimbun — Regionally focused newspaper from Kanazawa city, the cultural center in northern-central Japan.
Japan Times — It is “The World’s Window of Japan!” News and reports in English are reflected differently and appealing than regular Japanese newspapers. Reader’s opinion and Q & A are also intriguing.
Japan Update — Weekly update in English from Okinawa. The local southern island color is reflected in the news.
The Kyoto Shimbun News — This newspaper has its focus from Kyoto, Osaka and Shiga areas and has its unique spotlight on tourism including national treasures, temples and shrines.
Mainichi Newspapers — Available both in Japanese and in English. This is one of the major newspapers that will help you to walk through the articles and vocabularies.
Nipponia — Quarterly web magazine that introduces topics of modern Japanese culture in English.
Shinano Mainichi Shimbun — Nagano and vicinity (Shinano) regional newspaper related to Mainichi. The special search function on mountains in the region, highland botanicals, and onsen (hot springs)!
Yomiuri Shimbun — Available both in Japanese and in English. AP (Associated Press) is participating in the English version providing visual world news to your screen.
